Parenting for Veterans is the most recent update of the Parenting for Service Members and Veterans Course. This revised course, developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Mental Health, provides a free online resource for Veteran parents looking for information and strategies to improve their parenting skills. The original course was created by VA Mental Health Services in collaboration with the Department of Defense National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2) as part of a coordinated public health initiative designed to support Veterans and Service Members facing various challenges. This is the third version of the course, featuring almost entirely original content that differs from the first two iterations previously available on this site. Developers and contributors for the current content are listed below.

Course content created by:

  • Shelley Fenstermacher, PhD, Parenting Subject Matter Expert, OMH - Family Services
  • Michele Keller, LPMHC, LAC, Program Manager Web-Based Self-Help, OMH – Informatics
  • Brittany Davis-Hester, MEd, Instructional Systems Specialist, OMH – Informatics
  • Isaac Mirzadegan, PhD, San Francisco VA Health Care System; University of California

We gratefully acknowledge the following partner offices, organizations, and individuals for offering expert content review in their respective areas:

  • Theresa Schmitz, PhD, National Director of Family Services, OMH - Family Services
  • Pearl McGee-Vincent, PsyD, National Manager for Digital Mental Health, OMH – Informatics
